Waves Mount Late Comeback, Fall 6-5 to Blue Sox

The Ocean State Waves fell to the Valley Blue Sox Thursday night, coming up just one run short in a late comeback attempt.
The Blue Sox struck first in the bottom of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead before breaking the game open with a five-run sixth inning to build a 6-0 advantage.
Despite the deficit, the Waves battled back behind a standout performance from Samuel Fernandez, who was named the Waves Player of the Game.
In the top of the seventh, Fernandez launched a three-run home run, scoring Brodey Bitove and Thomas Meluskey to cut Valley's lead to 6-3.
Fernandez stayed hot in the eighth, driving in two more runs with a double that scored Liam Flynn and Meluskey, bringing the Waves within one run at 6-5.
Needing just one run to tie the game, the Waves threatened in the late innings, but the Blue Sox's pitching and defense held firm to preserve the lead and win the game.
The Waves will look to bounce back Friday as they travel to Martha's Vineyard to take on the Sharks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
