Waves Dominate SwampBats 11-0 to Earn Doubleheader Split
The Ocean State Waves earned their 10th win of the season with a dominant 11-0 victory over the Keene SwampBats in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.
After falling 6-2 in the opener, the Waves bounced back in emphatic fashion, shutting out the reigning NECBL champions behind a complete team effort.
On the mound, Cooper Maher and Brennan Confreda combined to hold the SwampBats to just one hit each during their outings, keeping Keene's offense off the scoreboard all game.
The Waves wasted no time taking control. Samuel Fernandez launched a grand slam in the top of the first inning to give Ocean State an early 4-0 lead. Cameron Papetti followed later in the inning with an RBI single, extending the advantage to 5-0.
Ocean State kept the pressure on in the third when William Mahala launched a solo home run to make it 6-0.
The Waves exploded again in the fourth inning, scoring six more runs to put the game well out of reach. Owen Morgan, Blaize Ward, Mahala and Papetti each drove in a run during the inning as the Waves built an 11-run advantage.
With dominant pitching and a strong defensive performance, the Waves held the SwampBats scoreless to complete the 11-0 shutout and split the doubleheader.
The Waves will look to build on the win Tuesday night when they face the Newport Gulls. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
