Waves Fall to NECBL-Leading Sharks, 8-5

The Ocean State Waves fell to the Martha's Vineyard Sharks Saturday night, 8-5.
Facing the NECBL's top team, the Waves found themselves in an early deficit as the Sharks plated two runs in the first inning before adding two more in the second to build a 4-0 lead.
The Waves answered in the bottom of the second when Owen Morgan singled and advanced to third on a Sharks error, allowing William Mahala and Liam Flynn to score and cut the deficit to 4-2.
Grant Wren started on the mound for the Waves but after three innings, Max Marchetti entered the game and one inning later Brennan Confreda did as well.
Max Farrell continued the comeback effort in the fifth, launching a solo home run to pull the Waves within one at 4-3.
Martha's Vineyard responded in the sixth, capitalizing on Waves' errors to score two runs and extend their lead. The Waves took advantage of a pair of Sharks errors in the bottom half of the inning, answering with two runs of their own to keep the game within reach.
The Sharks created more separation in the eighth, adding another two runs. The Waves put Bryant Yoak on the mound to close out the top of the ninth and with two strikeouts, Yoak did just that.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Waves were unable to mount another rally, falling 8-5 to the Sharks.
Up next, the Waves travel to the Keene State Swampbats to face off in a double header Sunday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
