Waves Fall 6-4 to Navigators After Late-Inning Rally

The Ocean State Waves (8-17) let a late lead slip away Sunday night, falling 6-4 to the North Shore Navigators (12-13) after the home team scored five runs over the final two innings.
The Waves struck first in the top of the third inning when Kalen Applefield delivered an RBI single to score Adonis Medina, giving the Waves a 1-0 lead.
North Shore answered in the bottom of the fifth to even the score at 1-1, but the Waves regained control in the sixth. Justin Hackett earned an RBI double to bring home Samuel Fernandez, restoring the lead, before William Mahala added an RBI single to score Brodey Bitove and extend the advantage to 3-1.
The Navigators added a run in the bottom of the seventh before breaking the game open in the eighth. North Shore plated four runs in the inning to erase the deficit and take a 6-3 lead against the Waves
The late-inning collapse continued a season-long trend for the Waves, who have struggled to hold onto leads. Gray Eubanks provided a solo home run in the top of the ninth, to lessen the deficit to 6-4, but the Waves were unable to complete the comeback.
The Waves will look to bounce back Tuesday night when they host the Valley Blue Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
