The Ocean State Waves were unable to capitalize on a three-home run performance, falling to the Danbury Westerners and extending their losing streak to five games.
The Waves got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first when Max Farrell launched a two-run home run to give Ocean State an early 2-0 lead.
Danbury evened the score in the top of the third, but the Waves answered immediately. Farrell crushed his second home run of the night in the bottom half of the inning to put the Waves back in front, 3-2.
William Mahala followed with a solo home run later in the inning, extending the Waves' advantage to 4-2 heading into the fourth.
However, the Waves were once again unable to protect an early lead. Danbury broke the game open in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs against starter Dylan Causey to take a 7-4 advantage.
Ocean State made one final push in the bottom of the eighth when Thomas Meluskey belted a two-run home run, cutting the deficit to one. But the Waves were unable to complete the comeback, as the Westerners held them scoreless in the ninth to secure the victory.
Defensive struggles also proved costly, with the Waves committing seven errors that contributed to the loss.
Ocean State will look to end its five-game skid on Tuesday when it travels to Martha's Vineyard to take on the Sharks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
