Ocean State Waves
The Ocean State Waves improved to 6-9 on the season after defeating the North Shore Navigators 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.
North Shore struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring two runs while holding the Waves scoreless through the opening two frames.
The Waves responded in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2. William Mahala scored on a Navigators error before Liam Flynn crossed the plate on an RBI from Meluskey.
The Waves took control in the bottom of the fourth, plating three runs to claim a 5-2 lead. Cameron Papetti doubled to right field, driving in Justin Hackett. Later in the inning, Meluskey delivered again with a two-RBI hit that brought home Papetti and Mahala.
The Waves added another run later in the game and relied on strong defense to preserve the lead. In the top of the seventh, Meluskey made a diving catch to end the inning and prevent a potential North Shore rally.
Meluskey was named Player of the Game after driving in three runs at the plate and making the inning-ending catch in the field.
With the win, Ocean State improves to 6-9 with plenty of games left to be played this season.
The Waves return to action Wednesday when they travel to Bristol, Connecticut, to take on the Bristol Blues.
