Waves Split Series On the Road Against Vermont

The Ocean State Waves faced off against the Vermont Mountaineers in a double header on Sunday where they secured a win in game two despite falling in the first game.
Starting on the mound for the Waves was Sawyer Deering who pitched 1.2 innings and allowed six hits with eight runs scored.
After Vermont brought in two runs during the top of the first, the Waves looked to respond and they did just that after Samuel Fernandez singled to shortstop to bring in Charlie Saul and cut Vermont's lead.
However, Vermont dominated in the top of the second, bringing in eight of their ten runs of the night to get an early 8-1 lead over the Waves.
In the bottom of the second, Cameron Papetti scored after a sacrifice fly from Saul to add another run on the board for the Waves.
A scoreless three innings quickly brought the game into the top of the sixth where the Mountaineers added two more runs to their lead following two RBIs from Nick Mullen.
During the bottom of the sixth, Papetti scored again after Brodey Bitove doubled to bring the score to 10-3. Neither team was able to score in the remaining innings to close out game one of the doubleheader with a 10-3 win for Vermont.
The Waves looked to turn things around in the second game to secure their second win of the season.
Starting on the mound for the Waves was Elliot Eaton who pitched three innings while striking out five batters. Eaton also kept the Mountaineers hitless across the three innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, Vermont struck first to get on the board with an RBI from Elliot Miles to bring in Sebastian Collender to take 1-0 lead.
The Waves quickly responded in the top of the sixth when Justin Hackett doubled to left center field and earned himself two RBIs, bringing in Thomas Meluskey and Blaize Ward. Liam Flynn followed with a single of his own to allow Justin Hackett to score/
Dylan McCarthy and Trey Telfer also made appearances on the mound for the Waves and stood strong to prevent Vermont from adding any more runs to the scoreboard.
The Waves took home a 3-1 win over Vermont to earn their second win of the season.
It will be an action-packed week for the Waves with games each day beginning on Tuesday. The Waves kick off the week at home against the Sanford Mainers with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
